Itinerary Snowshoeing on Etna Cratères 2002

This snowshoe hike starts in Piano Provenzana, after you have met your guide and checked your equipment. You set off on an ascent with a total difference in altitude of around 300 metres, which takes you right up to the craters of the 2002 eruption.

On Etna volcano, you’ll walk on trekking trails far from mass tourism, immersed in surreal silence. With snowshoes on Etna, you’ll cross an expanse of forest to reach the lunar landscape of the 2002 Buttonhole.

Snowshoes, also known as “ciaspole” in Italian, enable you to walk on fresh snow, thanks to their ability to float, and reach unique places like the 2002 buttonhole, entirely covered in snow, with a minimum of effort.

The scenery will be unique, between lava and snow. As you walk, you can admire the summit craters and the splendid blue sea that surrounds you.

Piano Provenzana snowshoe rentals

Snowshoes can be hired from the Piano Provenzana rental stores. Rental costs €15.00 per person (snowshoes + trekking poles).

Etna Craters snowshoe trekking prize 2002

The Etna Craters 2002 snowshoe hike is available every day, but only on reservation. The hike starts at 10 am. However, you must be on site by 9.45 a.m. to meet your guide and receive a briefing. Your equipment will be checked and, if necessary, you can rent shoes, snowshoes and/or a jacket directly from Piano Provenzana.

What to bring

Good walking shoes are essential for hiking. These can also be hired from the rental stores in Piano Provenzana. We also recommend dressing in layers and bringing a jacket (which can also be hired). The weather can change rapidly in the mountains. You should also bring at least 1.5 liters of water.
