The hike to the Grotta di Corruccio cave

The Grotta di Corruccio is located in the Ragabo pine forest not far from the Rifugio Ragabo. In about 15 minutes you can reach the cave. The walk is also suitable for children. The difference in height is small and the difficulty low.

There are signs pointing to the Grotta dei Corruccio. If you have the Rifugio behind you, enter the Ragabo woods on the right and follow the road. You can return by the same road, or continue on the path. You will always return to Rifugio Ragabo

About the Grotta di Corruccio

The cave now has two sections due to a collapse occurred in the central part, in fact you can see two entrances.

On one hand you find the steps in lava stone built on purpose, that bring you inside. Once you get inside you can see in the upstream part a pyramidal shape and downstream instead, in the darkest part, you can see two tunnels.

The upstream cave

If you go up to the upstream part you can see its pyramidal shape (like a Sicilian Arancino!). You can touch and see the walls that remained smooth and clean thanks to the high temperatures in the drainage stage that detached quickly.

In the summit entrance you arrive inside the cone of the crater of Mount Corruccio where you are able to climb on the border and notice the contrast between the Ragabo pine forest behind you and the lava flow that has descended towards Linguaglossa.

The cave in the valley

To descend into the cave downstream you need a flashlight because after a couple of meters you will encounter an overhang of a few meters until you reach a point where the cave is divided into two levels.

A lower level that continues on a completely lavic floor characterized by refusion stalactites on the roof. And with particular colors due to the oxidation of the rock.

In the superior level the cave continues for 20 meters.
