Want to discover Mount Etna without stress and with all the comforts included? This full-day tour takes you from your accommodation in Taormina or Giardini Naxos straight to the majestic north side of Mount Etna, where adventure, nature and geology come together.

Pick-up from your accommodation
In the morning, a driver will pick you up from your hotel or a nearby meeting point in Taormina or Giardini Naxos. Pick-up times are usually between 08:30 and 09:30, and are confirmed the day before the tour.
If you’re arriving by cruise ship in Messina, we can arrange a private pick-up at the port (with an additional fee).

Transfer to Piano Provenzana – Etna Nord
Your journey to Mount Etna takes you through scenic Etna villages like Linguaglossa, rich in local traditions and surrounded by old lava flows and vineyards. As you ascend, you’ll notice the landscape change: green forests give way to black volcanic terrain — a stunning contrast unique to Etna’s north side.

4×4 adventure to 2900 meters
Once you arrive at Piano Provenzana (1800 m), you will leave your transfer vehicle and begin your Etna experience. You’ll meet your expert volcanological guide and board a comfortable Unimog 4×4 bus designed to handle the rugged volcanic terrain. This off-road ride takes you up through dramatic lava fields and black volcanic deserts shaped by past eruptions. Along the way, you’ll admire ancient craters, breathtaking panoramic views, and the eruptive fracture from the 2002 eruption — one of the most powerful in Etna’s recent history. Your destination is Piano delle Concazze, located at nearly 2900 meters altitude.

Panoramic Stop – Pizzi Deneri Observatory
At 2900 meters, you’ll get off the 4×4 bus for a short guided trek of about 20–30 minutes to one of the most scenic spots on Etna: the Pizzi Deneri Observatory viewpoint. From here, you’ll enjoy spectacular views over Taormina, the Ionian coastline all the way to Catania, the dramatic Valle del Bove, and — on clear days — even the Aeolian Islands and Calabria. The hike is suitable for everyone and is one of the highlights of the tour. After this stop, you return to the 4×4 vehicle for the descent.

Stop at the Craters of 2002
On the way back down, you’ll make a second stop to explore the famous Craters of the 2002 eruption. Together with your volcanological guide, you’ll take a short 20-minute trek to the edge of the craters. This is your chance to see — up close — the dramatic impact of one of Etna’s most recent and destructive eruptions. The landscape here tells a powerful story of the volcano’s force and transformation. After this final stop, the 4×4 bus takes you back to Piano Provenzana, where the tour ends.

Return to Piano Provenzana and drop-off
The 4×4 will take you back down to Piano Provenzana. There, your driver will be waiting to take you back to Taormina or Giardini Naxos, filled with memories and photos of your day on Europe’s most active volcano.

Explore Etna North from 1800 meters to 2900 meters

This full-day experience includes pick-up from your accommodation in Taormina or Giardini Naxos and a guided 4×4 excursion on the north side of Mount Etna. You’ll explore impressive volcanic landscapes up to 2900 meters, with two scenic stops along the way. Below you’ll find the practical details of the tour:

• Pick-up time: between 08:30 and 09:30 at your accommodation or nearby meeting point in Taormina / Giardini Naxos (exact time confirmed the day before)
• Start of Etna excursion: around 10:30 at Piano Provenzana (Etna North, 1800 m)
• 4×4 & guided hike duration: approx. 2,5 hours total (round trip with two scenic stops)
• Return to Piano Provenzana: around 13:00 hour
• Drop-off time: back in Taormina / Giardini Naxos between 14:30 and 15:00, depending on traffic and group size
• Total duration including pick-up and return: approx. 6–7 hours

This tour is the only way to get as high as possible on Mount Etna with included the convenience of a pick-up service! The service is an exclusive collaboration between our portal with the tour carrier and a travel agency in Taormina. We recommend booking in advance so you can plan your day as best you can! This tour is only available on Mondays and Fridays, and the travel agency asks a minimum number of participants to confirm the pick-up service.

You need to wear good sports shoes during the hike. Hiking shoes can also be rented in the rentals (souvenir stores) at Piano Provenzana if you want. In addition, you should be dressed in layers and bring a wind jacket (can also be rented, €5.00 – € 10,00 per jacket). The weather can change rapidly in the mountains and there is always more wind the higher you go.
