Etna Sud quad tour itinerary
The quad tour starts from Rifugio Sapienza – Etna Sud and lasts about 2 hours. During the tour, you will drive through an old lava flow, see ancient craters in the distance, and visit a lava cave.
We will also show you the typical constructions of the region, which can be compared to nuraghes in Sardinia or trulli in Puglia. We descend into the middle of the broom forest of Etna, skirting ancient lava flows and crossing extraordinary lunar landscapes of lava.
Then, we will cross the bed of a dry river and a pine forest on Etna. In this way, you will have the possibility to admire a nice contrast between the green of nature and the black of the lava. Finally, after descending to the valley, you will return to the starting point at 1900 meters – Rifugio Sapienza.
Details
The 2-hour quad tour begins from the square next to Rifugio Sapienza, on the southern side of Mount Etna at 1900 meters altitude. We offer four start times per day: 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your selected time, so you have time to meet your guide, get your helmet, and receive instructions. Booking is necessary! Only then can we guarantee your chosen departure time.
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours, including several short stops at stunning locations – such as an impressive lava cave. At each stop, your guide will share fascinating facts and stories about Etna’s volcanic landscape.
You don’t need any prior quad experience – in fact, most people are first-timers! The quads are automatic and easy to handle, with both hand and foot brakes. Your guide will give a full safety and driving briefing before the tour begins.
A valid car driver’s license is required to drive a quad.
Children can join as passengers. We recommend a minimum age of 5 years, provided they are strong enough to hold on safely.

The tour starts at 1900 meters above sea level. It's not allowed to drive higher up the volcano with a quad – that’s only possible by cable car or on foot from Etna South. Instead, this quad tour explores the lower slopes of Mount Etna, where you'll discover ancient lava flows now hidden among nature, and even visit a lava cave along the way.
