The pickup for the Etna tour from Taormina
A pick-up will be scheduled in the morning at your accommodation in Taormina or Giardini Naxos or nearby (we have established different pick-up points). The pick-up time will usually be between 08:30 and 09:30 maximum.
We can also arrange for you to be picked up at the port of Messina. An additional fee is charged for this service.
From Taormina to Piano Provenzana - Etna Nord
From Taormina or Giardini Naxos you are taken to Mount Etna volcano via Linguaglossa. You arrive at the tourist station of Piano Provenzana at an altitude of 1800 meters on the northern slope of Mount Etna.
During the trip you will discover the beauty and traditions of the volcano's inhabitants as you pass through typical Etna villages, which will welcome you with the warmth and color of basaltic lava that is prominent in the streets and on their houses.
As you begin to climb toward the volcano you will witness the natural evolution of Mount Etna, which with its vegetation and old lava flows makes your tour to Mount Etna from Taormina unique and unforgettable.
Explore Etna North from 1800 meters to 2900 meters
Once you arrive at 1800 meters at Piano Provenzana you will leave your transfer bus. You will board comfortable 4x4 buses and begin the Etna excursion that will allow you to climb the volcano to almost 3,000 meters, all accompanied by an expert volcanological guide.

At an altitude of 2900m you get off the 4x4 bus to do a short trek to the panoramic viewpoint with your volcanological guide. From here you have a beautiful view to Taormina, the coast to Catania, the Bove Valley and the summit craters. The trek is suitable for everyone and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. After this stop, you return to the 4x4 buses to go down to the 2002 craters for a second stop.
Stop at the Craters of 2002
On the way back with the 4x4 buses you will make a stop at the last craters of 2002. Together with the volcanological guide you make a small trek of about 20 minutes to reach the edges of the 2002 craters. Here you will discover the true strength of the volcano. Then you return again with the 4x4 buses to Piano Provenzana.
Tips Etna from Taormina: Etna 3000
This tour is the only way to get as high as possible on Mount Etna with included the convenience of a pick-up service! The service is an exclusive collaboration between our portal with the tour carrier and a travel agency in Taormina. We recommend booking in advance so you can plan your day as best you can!
Don't forget to bring:
- backpack with something to drink and a snack
- sunglasses
- sunscreen
- extra jacket
It is obligatory to wear good hiking shoes or good sports shoes during the hike. Hiking shoes can also be rented in the rentals (souvenir stores) at Piano Provenzana. In addition, you should be dressed in layers and bring a wind jacket (can also be rented, €5.00 - € 10,00 per jacket). The weather can change rapidly in the mountains and there is always more wind the higher you go.
Etna tour requirements by 4x4 bus
The tour is suitable for everyone with a minimum age of 2 years old. The treks are quite easy and therefore also suitable for people of a certain age.
The excursion is not recommended for:
- those who suffer from heart problems
- those who are pregnant
- those who have strong knee and/or back problems.
The hike is done on terrain that is impassable. So you need good sports shoes to do the hike.
The excursion is always carried out within the limits provided by current ordinances.
